What is a New Year’s Resolution?

Happy New Year (1)“A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person resolves to change an undesired trait or behavior, to accomplish a personal goal or otherwise improve their life.”

Every year we vow to lose weight, organize our homes, change our lives but most of us end the year with the same bad habits that we started with. Why? Are we incapable of change? No we aren’t incapable. We just don’t WANT to.  Plain and simple we don’t want to do the work or put forth the effort it takes to bring about change. It requires action and giving up the excuses we make day in and day out. It is a harsh reality but we CHOSE to stay where we are.

I offer you a chance to make it different this year. I have been blessed with finding Mel Robbins and her 5 Second Rule. For a goal or a resolution to be reached, it has to be SMART. It must be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Based. Very few of our resolutions are SMART. We wake up, look in the mirror and aren’t happy with what we see so we say, “I’m losing weight this New Year.” But do we have a plan to do that? No it is often just pie in the sky. Willpower and motivation deplete quickly if we don’t have a specific, measurable and achievable goal.

I will be offering a course Start the Year with a Better You in January that will help you define your goals and give you the tools to make changes.  The course will be available in the classroom in Amarillo, Texas, live via webinar, or online with recorded video. The choice is yours. Reserve your spot today and receive your copy of the 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins that will change your life.
