24 Clock Hours of Annual Training

• Training relevant to the age of the children for whom the caregiver provides care.

Specific Training Topics (at least six clock hours)

• Child growth and development
• Guidance and discipline
• Age-appropriate curriculum
• Teacher-child interaction

Child Maltreatment Training (at least one clock hour)

• Prevention, recognition, and reporting of child maltreatment

Infant Care Training (if applicable, at least one clock hour)

• Recognizing and preventing shaken baby syndrome and abusive head trauma
• Understanding and using safe sleep practices and preventing sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
• Understanding early childhood brain development

Additional Required Topics (no specific clock hour requirements)

• Emergency preparedness
• Preventing and controlling the spread of communicable diseases
• Administering medication
• Preventing and responding to emergencies due to food or allergic reactions
• Understanding building and physical premises safety
• Handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous materials

Instructor-led and Self-instructional Training

• At least five hours of annual training from instructor-led training.
• Remaining 19 hours from self-instructional training (no more than three hours from self-study training).
